Anticipation
Anticipation
This is exactly how I am feeling today looking out my patio door and anticipating eating my first home grown tomatoes of the season.
This single ripening cherry tomato is the only one in the garden almost ready to eat. I have been watching this little guy daily out my patio door teasing me and taking his sweeet old time. The sweet 100’s and the chocolate cherry tomatoes are the ones starting to ripen, the others are still weeks away.
There are plenty of tomato clusters growing and in a few weeks I will be bringing in bowlfuls daily, but for now I am left waiting for my first real taste of summer. When the crop starts coming in I will be adding more recipes to our site.
I think back every year at this time about my grandmother taking me out to her vegetable garden with a shaker of salt. She would pick one beautiful ripe red fruit, wipe it off on her apron, take a bite out of it then sprinkle it with salt. We would eat our tomatoes fresh from the plant right in the middle of the garden. Nothing was better then that bitting into that warm garden ripened tomato with the juiciness of it running down your face and hands. The simple things like that are still important to me, Im sure everyone has one as well.
Hopefully in a day or two the wait will be over and my summer desire will be complete when I pop that little little guy into my mouth. Until then I am left in anticipation, are you old enough to remember the 1978 commercial for Heinz ketchup, Watch the video
