Fresh Dill
Fresh dill from the garden grows like wild. Plant it only once and you will
find it all over your property the next year.
When making my Chilled Dill Pickles I like to use the youngest and freshest dill I can find in the garden. Pick it while the flowers are still yellow or at least before they go to seed. Pull the whole plant from the ground, cut of the head all the dill weed from the lower branches to use for pickling. Of course the dill can be used at any stage of development, I just have found that it is at its premium flavor while the buds are still young. It always seems in my garden that the cucumbers and the dill are not ready at the same time. To keep the dill flourishing thru the summer, knock the seeds from the flower heads when they have dried and just drop them into an open space in the garden, this is just my way of ensuring I will always have fresh dill.
