Baking Bacon
One of the easiest thing to cook in the kitchen is baking bacon, in the oven of course and not the frying pan. This was a professional trick for years and now most home cooks are becoming aware of it. If you are unaware of this time and mess saving process we will show you how in three easy steps below.
This process not only saves time because you can cook as many packages of bacon your oven will hold, but it saves the mess of a splattered stove and possible burnt fingers. You can generally fit a one pound package of thick cut bacon on a baking pan. You will bake the bacon in a very hot 425°F oven for 15-25 minutes depending upon your desired crispiness.
I like to cook all my bacon for the week ahead during weekend breakfast. Store it in a zip lock bag or storage container in the refrigerator for two weeks. Just reheat for 30 seconds to one minute in the microwave oven .
Step 1: Lay out your bacon in a single layer on your baking sheet, they can be close together and even overlap very slightly, this is fine because of the shrinkage during the baking process.
Step 2: After about 15 minutes, pull bacon from the oven and carefully turn each piece with a pair of tongs.
Step 3: Pull from oven when desired crispiness is achieved. Depending upon your oven certain spots are hotter then others, you may have to remove a few pieces and return the pan back to the oven for a few minutes until all are done.
Save your bacon grease for later use like our grandparents did by storing in a bowl in ther refrigerator. Use for frying eggs, potatoes or cabbage dishes. Someone in my family loves to dip a piece of bread in the grease while still warm in the pan.
Enjoy !
